台北噪音迷幻怪獸再次蘇醒
月之破音夢魘雨季嶄新旅途

Three years on from the band's acclaimed ‘Grateful End’ album, and following up last year's reissue of their live release ‘Psychedelic Scum Freaks’. Taipei's underground psych monsters Dope Purple return with their new album proper, ‘This Is The Harsh Trip For New Psyche’.

The album is co-released again by Riot Season & WV Sorcerer Productions and is available on three vinyl variants, and also digitally.

The album, it's a mixture of harsh noise and psych rock, the noise element being well recorded and presented so we can hear many details, and blends perfectly with the other instruments in all frequencies. The whole album moves between a spectral sadness and insanity, each track takes a rather different direction, recognising the influence of classic Japanese bands such as High Rise, Mainliner, and Les Rallizes Dénudés.

The album is a collaboration with Berserk, a young underground pioneer from the Taipei scene, and has been performing chaotic frequency manipulation and carefully textured post-apocalyptic soundscape since 2015.

The cover features hand-drawn artwork by Japanese artist 柏木辿 Ten Kashiwagi, and the mixing/mastering was taken care of once again by 濁朗 Darklaw from Japan, perfectly capturing the aesthetic and technical aspects of the recording.

距離首張正式專輯《Grateful End》已經過去了四年多，台北噪音迷幻怪獸 Dope Purple蘇醒回歸，帶來他們的最新專輯《This is the Harsh Trip for New Psyche》。

本專輯再次由WV Sorcerer巫唱片和英國Riot Season（Acid Mothers Temple、Mainliner、Hibushibire 秘部痺れ）聯合發行。

專輯錄音特邀台北地下先鋒音樂人Berserk（徐嘉駿）加盟，是迷幻搖滾和Harsh Noise的巔峰融合之作，雖然樂隊追求大音量與極致混亂的音效，但是值得一提的是，噪音部分在這張專輯中被非常細緻的記錄和呈現，各頻率細節十分清晰，並與其它樂器完美融合。伴隨Dope Purple標誌性的音樂編排，整張專輯在一種怪異的憂傷和瘋狂之間遊走。同時，每首曲目也有相當不同的走向，可以辨別出日本經典樂隊（如High Rise、Mainliner 和 Les Rallizes Dénudés）的潛移默化的影響。

封面特別邀請到日本藝術家柏木辿（Ten Kashiwagi），為專輯創作了手繪作品。混音和母帶則仍然由日本聲音工程師濁朗Darklaw操刀，從音樂美學和聲響技術層面都完美呈現了這份同期錄音。

In the band's own words …

This is a Sci-Fi story about Norman the Sinner.

Like the concept of Yin and Yang, this album has the concepts of Moon/Earth and Curse/Blessing, and under this structure we try to present a narrative of psychedelic rock fused with noise.

Musically, this album is the opposite side of our last album "Psychedelic Scum Freaks". For me, "Psychedelic Scum Freaks" is the "fiercest" album I've ever accidentally made, and it's one of the achievements I've had in mind for a long time.

It gave me a great sense of achievement, but at the same time it gave me a sense of pressure.

Dope Purple had to go beyond "Psychedelic Scum Freaks", but I didn't want to do it in exactly the same way. So for "This is the Harsh Trip for New Psyche" we invited Taiwanese noise musician Berserk to do the same approach as on the last album, fusing "psychedelic rock" with "harsh noise", but instead of "extreme" we explored the possibilities of "experimental".

At the same time, this album is a collection of my "love songs", every song is filled with my "love" and "challenge" for my favourite bands. You could also say that I reinterpreted my favourite songs in the style of "Noise Rock".

One of the reasons was that due to the pandemic we couldn't do a cross-country production as smoothly as before (the album was mixed at 濁朗 Darklaw's house in Japan).

But the other reason is that I couldn't deal with the chaos of that time either. It was only after a period of calm that I was able to face my inner turmoil and chaos, and I finally realised that I had sacrificed a lot of people for the sake of making music.

Therefore, I changed the lyrics and reconstructed the album under the theme of Sci-Fi Fable.

Norman of the Moon is you and me.

從專輯主題來講，這張專輯是一個罪人Norman的科幻故事。

就像陰陽概念一樣，這張裡面有月亮/地球、詛咒/祝福的對立共存之概念，在這架構之下我們試圖呈現了迷幻搖滾跟噪音融合在一起的叙事曲。

在音樂性方面來講，這張專輯是上一張專輯《Psychedelic Scum Freaks》的反面，對我來說《Psychedelic Scum Freaks》是「不小心」做出來的「最兇」專輯，也可以說是我完成了心目中的理想之一。

這對我帶來了很大的成就感，但同時帶來了壓抑感。

接下來Dope Purple需要超越《Psychedelic Scum Freaks》，但我不想再用完全一樣的方法了。因此在《This is the Harsh Trip for New Psyche》，我們邀請台灣噪音音樂家Berserk，跟上一張專輯一樣進行了「Harsh Noise」跟「Psychedelic Rock」的融合，然而其重點不在於「兇 Extreme」，而是探討了更豐富的「可能性 Experimental」。

同時這張專輯是我的「情歌」，每首歌都充滿著我對我喜歡的樂團之「愛」跟「挑戰」。也可以說是我以「噪音搖滾」的脈絡重新詮釋了我最喜歡的歌。

而從現實方面來講，這是2020年疫情時期的現場紀錄。

疫情時期我們失去了所有的連結，所有的希望，就像一個被留在月球的罪人一樣。在這種狀況下，我們舉辦了公開錄音現場。

因為有了各種理由，當時在演奏的時候，我在想或許這變成我們的最後一場演出。後來我手上有了這場演出的錄音檔案，但一直都沒辦法弄成專輯。

其中一個理由是因為疫情的關係，沒辦法像之前一樣順利進行跨國的專輯製作（這張專輯的混音是在日本的濁朗 Darklaw 家裡進行），但還有一個理由是，其實我自己也沒辦法好好面對這時期的混亂。等到一陣子時間的平靜才終於可以面對我內心的混亂跟混沌，我終於理解自己為了做音樂，犧牲了好多好多人。

由此在科幻寓言的主題之下，修改了歌詞，重新建構了這張專輯。月球的Norman就是我跟你。
