Go on a moonlit promenade for an auditory enjoyment.

The Dong Stockaded Village in the Qiandongnan region of Guizhou, China, is dedicated to preserving the oldest traditions of their ethnicity. Their beliefs and daily lives seem guided by a profound reverence for harmony with nature as if beauty arises - naturally and magically - when people see themselves as a part of it. I want to use sound recordings to capture and convey the beauty of these returns. After a long wait of a three-year global pandemic, in September 2023, my ideas finally came to fruition thanks to a moment of impulsivity. All sounds in this recording - night, bugs, ducks, pigs, river water, firewood, and people - are treated equally with care. The singers are all from this village.

The album comes in a 12" record, a special art paper cover printed with Pantone spot color printing (3 types of silver), and an 8-page booklet in Chinese and English. The whole set is housed in botanically dyed cloth, which is hand-woven and dyed with indigo.

开启一场耳朵的月下漫步

位于中国贵州的黔东南侗寨，有着非常传统而古朴的保留与坚守，从他们的信仰到日常生活的琐碎，好像都在遵循着某种和谐。似乎当人们将自己视为自然中的一部分时，美，就产生了，简单而神奇。我想用声音记录的方式去表达这种回归之美。2023年9月，经过了三年疫情，这个想法终于在冲动下得以实现。出现在这张唱片里的所有声音；夜晚、虫子、鸭子、猪、河水、柴火、人...... 都以平等的方式被对待，演唱者均为普通村民，非专业歌手。

Sheng Jie 盛潔 (a.k.a gogoj), born in 1975, based in Beijing. Audio / visual artist, graduated from Ecole Supérieure Des Arts Décoratifs de Strasbourg in France, currently lives and works in Beijing. Works include video, film, sound, installation, and performance. She is one of China's foremost experimental musicians, active from the late '90s. Her first full-length album "Oviparity" was selected in Top 50 Releases of 2020 on The Wire Magazine.
