Bowed double bass, electric guitar, glockenspiel, a woman singing an Indian-style devotional song, strings, bagpipes? , a free-jazz saxophone solo and that's just the intro. Certainly the craziest thing you'll have heard in a long while. Lyrical and well up for a bout or two of furious head-banging, Dolphy Kick Bebop are difficult to pigeonhole. Their brand of mayhem is accessible and enjoyable, but impossible to dismiss as trivial or frivolous. It's as wild and edgy as they come. Mighty!
Favorite track: B2 - Buddleja II.

With a name like that, I half-expected some big-band spy-jazz a la Cowboy Bebop. In an alternate universe, China's Dolphy Kick Bebop soundtracks those space-pirate rascals with 420-friendly free-jazz and sax-squealing drone-doom.
Favorite track: B3 - The Ostrich and Another Woman with Anemia.

Intense and very organic mix of progressive rock, drone, free-jazz and psychedelia straight out from China. Was very surprised to hear Kyuss- inspired stoner rock elements as well. So much commitment and devotion on this record! Marvelous artwork and design.
Favorite track: A2 - Buddleja I.

On the night
When I considered the essence of the God
I became aware of an image:
I lay in a dark depth
An old man stood before me
He looked like one of the old prophets
Suddenly a door opens on the right
Onto a garden full of bright sunshine
(*From The Red Book by Carl Jung)
On the following night
I was led to a second scene
Slightly I, sensed the path
Flowing out on me
The door closed behind
No one’s arrived
Yet I was glad
And I am glad
Founded in 2014, with only a few cult live shows, Hangzhou based free psychedelic project Dolphy Kick Bebop 海豚踢 has never stopped exploring the edge of avant-garde music. After a silence of two years, Dolphy Kick Bebop 海豚踢 is back with their latest full-length album "Briefvisit" on WV Sorcerer Productions. Comparing to their highly appreciated first EP "Smoke a Haiku Cigarette" out on Space Fruity Records in 2018, we can find more drone, free jazz and improvisation elements in "Briefvisit". Influences also include African jazz roots, tribal percussion, Japanese free improvisation / noise sound, and of course the 60-70s prog rock. The raw guitar fuzz, the double bass and saxophone echo each other, with various acoustic instruments improvisation part, this album speaks to the mountain winds in humid Southern China and to the flaming fires that burst.

“The elusive psychedelic improvisational outfit Dolphy Kick Bebop, out of Hangzhou, return with their latest journey into the abyss with Briefvisit, out on WV Sorcerer Productions. There’s a mystical quality to the way the band’s music unfurls - as elements of Krautrock, free jazz, and prog rock simmer in a haze of sun-baked psychedelia - leading you down a path that's difficult to turn back from. Sprawling and abrasive in its musicality, lucid and seductive in its aura, it engulfs and spits you out anew.”

No other way to put it - this is an absolute BEAST of an album.
It sounds like collaboration between Sepultura circa Roots and Sun Ra and his Arkestra out past Saturn, with all manner of psychedelia and middle eastern madness thrown in, too.
There are vocals – from harmonised female to throat singing - but they are more flourish than feature.
Never heard an album quite like this before, and likely won't unless Bjork records an album in Hades. And I've give my right arm to see it played live. Michael Mueller
If you were in an industrial accident in the rubber bullet factory at which you are a shift supervisor, but for whatever reason that particular day you decided to use all your braided rawhide leather belts to sandwich pillows around your body instead of wearing clothes to work, and by so doing you survive the accident... this is that, but more guitar-forward. woe_bonnet
