Un des problèmes majeurs du DSBM, c'est que nous, auditeurs et auditrices, sommes souvent placés dans la position de spectateurs, avec la distance que ça implique : la guitare y fait office de mur couvrant un chanteur plus ou moins (souvent moins) audible. Absence of Life n'applique pas cette stratégie. Dans son premier E.P. The Fall, les cris de Forladt et Nokt sont mis en avant et les passages acoustiques de toute beauté sont pléthoriques. La dépression est frontale, aucune perspective d'abri.
